Final speaker of the year - David Lowe - Happy 30th Birthday, Email!

Please join us for the last CSET/EPIC sponsored Colloquium presentation with our speaker, David Lowe, this Wednesday at 4:00 pm in PV 206!

David is a computer programmer who has spent over 16 years writing server-side software.  For several of those years, he hacked on email software that sent and received about 500 billion emails; it probably sent email to YOU!

Email has been around for 30 years now... how's it doing? By almost any technical metric, email is a terrible, awful, horrible, no-good system for doing what it does today. And yet... it works. And is stupendously successful.

He will  be talking about the history of email, examining some of the complicated, convoluted tricks that have kept it working for so long, and musing about what it demonstrates about software development in general. Along the way, he will shed a little light on some email mysteries: bcc, spoofing, relaying, spam and more.

Hope to see many of you at the presentation!
